Maria Rebekka Stoehr, German-Mexican Mezzo-Soprano, began studying opera singing in 1999 at the Music University of Karlsruhe, Germany. In 2002, she continued her studies in the Master Class of distinguished professor Virginia Zeani at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. After receiving a Performer Diploma, Mrs Stoehr returned to Germany finishing her degrees in opera and concert singing with distinction in Karlsruhe with Maria Venuti. At the same time, she became a member of the opera studio at the
Badisches Staatstheaters Karlsruhe theatre, appearing as Métella (Life in Paris), Rossweisse (The Valkyrie), Mercédès (Carmen) and Second Lady (The Magic Flute). Maria Rebekka Stoehr attended participated in several Master Classes by KS Hilde Zadek, Martina Arroyo, Håkan Hagegård, KS Brigitte Fassbaender, and Leonard Hokanson.
She has been awarded a DAAD Scholarship, the Elite Scholarship of the Landesstiftung Baden-Wuerttemberg, the Bayreuth-Scholarship of the International Richard Wagner Foundation, as well as a Scholarship of the Italian Cultural Institute. She won prizes at the finals of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin 2006 and the Rotary Musikwettbewerb 2007 in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Maria Rebekka Stoehr debuted 2003 with a DAAD-concert at Carnegie-Hall, New York. She also performed at several festivals in Europe, such as the Schwetzinger Schloss-Festspiele 2004, Festival di Sant' Efisio Cagliari, Sardinia 2005, Schlossfestspiele Weikersheim 2007 as Cenerentola, Monschau Klassik 2008 as Dorabella and Rosina, Ekhof-Festival Gotha 2008 and Nymphenburger Sommer 2008.
In 2008, she debuted as Olga (Eugen Onegin) at Theater Pforzheim, as Sesto (La Cemenza di Tito) at
Landestheater Niederbayern in Passau. Likewise in Passau, she sang 2009 Aldonza (Man of La Mancha), and Penitenza (Il Giardino di Rose).
After winning the International Audition Competition at Schlossoper Haldenstein in Switzerland, Maria Rebekka Stoehr debuted in August 2009 as Carmen in Chur and the Tonhalle Zurich.
Maria Rebekka sang with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, NDR (Northern German Television), the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, the Bundesjugendorchester, as well as with Kammerphilharmonie Graubuenden. Conductors such as Alessandro DeMarchi, Markus Bosch, Gabriel Feltz, Antony Bramall, Wilhelm Keitel and Patrick Lange enjoyed working with her.
Besides her passion for Opera, Mrs Stoehr adores Lied and Concert singing. Lately, she recorded Beethoven's Volksliedbearbeitungen and Kindervolkslieder by Brahms as part of the composite recording of label Brilliant Classics.
